Ka'Aha'aina
was built by Clarence Hyde Cooke in the 1920s on fourteen acres of property in Nu'uanu.
It was purchased by A. Lester Marks and his wife Elizabeth in 1946 from the Academy of
Arts, which had inherited the estate. The estate features a magnificent main structure
of ten thousand square feet. The back garden includes a stream and a magnificent pool
with a cabana featuring columns of a Roman temple. It is in the Hawaii'i Register and
the National Register of Historic Sites. Ka'Aha'aina was purchased in 2006 by Douglas
Himmelfarb for his personal residence and to house his extensive art collection.
