How do I know what level to
apply my child for?
Students ages 4-7 are automatically placed according to their age in a specific level.
Since classes for that age group are popular we ask that you and your child come in to observe a class.
Please call to confirm a specific date. You may fill out a application form at that time. If there is a waiting list for that class your child will be
placed on the list and will be let in according to the date they came to observe the class.
How do I sign my child up for classes?
Application for classes can take place in person or by mail once the class level is determined.
The class tuition including a non-refundable registration fee must be paid to confirm placement in the class.
When do classes begin and end?
Our 36-week program begins in late August and ends approximately June 1.
There is also 7 weeks from June 9 - July 25 and a Summer Intensive session from July 23 to
August 15.
What types of dance lessons other than ballet do you offer students?
We are primarily a classical ballet school. We do not currently have other dance classes
as a part of Ballet Hawaii's program, however there are Modern and Tap offered by other teachers at our studio.
Workshops in other forms of dance styles are offered periodically throughout the year.
Please call the office for more information.
At what age do you begin to offer classes?
We start teaching children at age 4. They must be the appropriate age by September 1st
of the school year to participate in the Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet Division (ages 4-6).
Students age 7 enter into the Ballet I level. Students ages 8
and up must attend a placement class to determine their appropriate technique level.
We offer classes from levels Ballet one through Ballet seven level. Ballet VII is by audition only.
Do you offer scholarships?
Scholarships are offered based on demonstrated financial need and are available to students
who have attended the Ballet Hawaii for one or more years. A committee meets and
awards scholarships in mid - July for the upcoming school year. Please call the artistic
director for further information.
How many classes must my child take a week?
Student's ages 4-7 are only required to take one class per week. All other students (ages 8 and up) must take at
least two ballet technique classes a week. Students are required to take all classes designated for their technical level.
Is there a deadline for applications or are they ongoing?
Applications are ongoing throughout the year. We strongly advise early application for current
students to hold a spot for your child in the classes, as they do tend to have waiting lists.
Do you have performance opportunities?
Students who are registered for the Spring Session are required to perform in our Spring Showcase,
as the piece they perform is a class project and is practiced in class. Please refer to the
school calendar for performance dates. There is a performance fee for all those who perform.

When are auditions for the Nutcracker and what are the requirements?
Auditions for Ballet Hawaii’s Nutcracker
are typically in September. All students auditioning must be 6 years of age by the audition date.
Students do not have to prepare a routine to audition. There is no pre-registration.
All paperwork will be available at the audition. If chosen for a role, each dancer and a
parent or guardian will be required to sign a contract confirming their
commitment to the rehearsal and performance schedule. It is important that each family
understand the demands and rewards of participating in a major production. There is a
performance fee for all those who perform.
When do you hold auditions for your summer programs?
Auditions for our summer programs begin in January and run through March at our studios.
If unable to attend an audition class in person, please submit video, dance resume, and
photos (an arabesque and tendu in second) along with an
Audition Form
(form are available online at www.ballethawaii.org). The video does not need to be more
than 10 minutes and can be from a class showing barre and center work and include: adagio;
pirouettes both endehor and endedans; petite and grand allegro; and pointe work for the ladies.
You can also include excerpts from production where we can clearly see your technique.
For other information,
call the 808-521-8600 or email us at
info@ballethawaii.org. The audition fee will be applied to the tuition if the student is accepted and enrolls in the program.
What is the Adult division?
The Adult division allows people ages 16 and up the chance to either begin or continue their dance training.
No registration or commitment is required. You can pay as you go on a per class basis.
The open classes for beginning adults and those with more experience are offered in ballet.
Intermediate level classes are offered in Tap and Modern.
What age do you start Pointe classes?
This is determined after consultation with the Artistic Director and based on each student's technical and physical development.
Ballet Hawaii provides ballet dance classes for
all ages in Hawaii. Ballet performances follow major class events and
the Nutcracker performance is the finest in Hawaii.
